Friend,

After a 17-year hiatus, the resumption of federal executions are set to begin this upcoming Monday, with a rapid fire succession of 3 of the 4 executions taking place next week. Dates for federal executions are: July 13th, 15th, and 17th, and August 28th.

The cases of the men scheduled for federal execution reflect many of the problems that make the federal death penalty system arbitrary, biased and unfair. Missouri has the second most prisoners on federal death row and it is important to take a stand against this flawed system where ever it may present itself.

In the coming week we we urge you to participate in these Calls to Action:

-Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty will be hosting execution watches and vigils should the federal executions take place. Events will be held in Kansas City, Missouri on July 13th, 15th, and 17th from 2:30PM-3:30PM at the Federal Courthouse, 400 E 9th St, Kansas City, MO 64106. Social distancing and mask wearing are necessary for in person events. For more information please visit our Facebook page.

-We are encouraging folks to engage in Online Vigils that are hosted by Death Penalty Action. You can find more information about online vigils for the scheduled federal executions via Death Penalty Action’s Facebook page. Their schedule may change so please remember to watch for any updates.

-If you have not signed the petitions urging a halt to the federal executions please visit www.madpmo.org and sign today.

Summer 2020 MADP Programming:

-The St. Louis Chapter of MADP will be hosting an online screening of “Through the Cracks”, a film about Missouri death row prisoner Johnny Johnson, Severe Mental Illnesses (SMI) and the death penalty. This screening is set to take place August 6th from 7PM-9PM and is free and open to all. More information about this screening will be provided within the coming weeks.

Our work has yet to slow given the states desire to pursue death. If you can at this time, please consider donating to MADP via our secure online donation page. Thank you for your continued support to MADP as we work to end the death penalty in Missouri.

Sincerely,

Missourians for Alternatives to the Death Penalty
